Regardless of the industry, social media is among the most powerful marketing tools in business. Rebel Interactive Group predicted some social media marketing trends for 2016, many of which we saw come to fruition to some extent. Now that 2017 is on the horizon, it’s a good time for us to make some gutsy predictions for another year.
Live Streams Become More Important
We saw the emergence of live streams on social media in 2016, and we predict these will only gain popularity and influence in 2017. This rings true particularly with Facebook’s “live” feature, which allows any user to stream video live from their location.
Businesses can take advantage of this by leveraging live video to share content with online followers. This could include live streams in which you announce a new product/service, or stage a “behind-the-scenes” tour of some aspect of your business. Whatever it is, make sure it’s engaging, and make sure you let people know it’s going to happen (read: don’t throw a party without inviting any guests.)
Increased Use of Chatbots
Facebook also recently launched the option for third-party accounts to create and implement messenger chatbots, which we anticipate will gain huge popularity in 2017. Chatbots provide automated and real-time interaction between customers/potential customers and a company’s Facebook page. As a result, people can get immediate answers to questions and enjoy other customer service interactions without the need for live customer support service.
Social Influencer Takeover
Another trend we’re going to see carry over from 2016 is the importance of social influencers, from celebrity bloggers and brand influencers to YouTube stars. Utilizing social influencers in your marketing campaign can be a powerful way to build trust with your audience and improve overall brand recognition, engagement and conversion.
More Virtual Reality
There was a lot of talk about virtual and augmented reality in 2016, and while we saw some exciting advancements in that space, our prediction is that 2017 will be a giant step for this technology, particularly as it pertains to social media. As VR headsets and technology become more accessible, the technology will only continue to grow, and it will become a valuable aspect of any tech-savvy company’s social media marketing strategy.
Reduced Organic Reach
With billions of social media users logging in on a daily basis, it’s simply not possible for most social media platforms to cater to organic reach anymore. Instead, many social media platforms (such as Facebook and Instagram) have begun charging for ad space, beginning the transition of social media from an organic virtual platform to a very real paid media platform. If you haven’t already, it may be time to revisit your marketing budget and consider allocating funds to social media advertising. With that in mind, personalization and tailored content is becoming more important than ever in catching your audience’s attention in a storm of competing status updates and Tweets.
2017 promises to be an exciting year in ever-expanding galaxy of social media marketing, and you’ll definitely want in on the explosion — and the revenue. Contact our team at Rebel Interactive Group for the assistance and resources you need to make these trends (and some other things we have up our proverbial sleeve) work for you.
